Shay and Lindsay's Big Adventures in Europe!

After a busy and hectic year, Shay and I decided to plan a big trip this summer. Having never really been to mainland Europe (Azores aside), we wanted to spend a good chunk of time in each city we chose to visit. We decided to combine France, Spain and Portugal, as geographically they all connect and are easy to navigate, and culturally, they satisfy our need to eat good food, bask in the sun, and explore new beaches.

We booked most of our trip using www.airbnb.com. This is a website similar to homeaway.uk, that allows residents to rent out a room, or their entire apartment/house to complete strangers! Aside from a few hotels and hostels, we booked the rest of our stays through this website. So far so good!

Saying goodbye to Dexter for a month has been the hardest. Shay's very caring mom took him in this time, who we are forever grateful for.

Late night Dexter snuggles.

Nic booked us our flights into Paris and out of Lisbon for the month of July, and encouraged a quick flight from Pamplona to Mallorca to save time when we arrive on the island. I even convinced Leslie (it was extremely difficult as I'm sure you can imagine) to come join us for a leg of our trip. Andrea had to save his vacation days so unfortunately couldn't join us. We promised to update him regularly with all of the fun we were having.

Flights were very reasonable, about $900 return to fly into Paris and out of Lisbon via Air Transat. Air Transat allows you to pre-book your seats if you're willing to pay $70 per person, per flight for extra leg room. We opted against it this time and were gravely disappointed. The seats are tight, and the flight is long, but the worst part was the mess of screaming vomiting babies that surrounded us. Why anyone in their right mind would travel with small children on that long of a flight is beyond me. They were all absolute nightmares. If they weren't screaming for hours on end, they were vomiting without warning all over themselves. Airlines need to create a family section at the back of planes, where families can sit, and shriek, and cry, and vomit all over one another without disrupting every other passenger on the plane for the duration of their trip. Just a thought. It would make everyone's flight more enjoyable. Rant over.

So needless to say we did not get to sleep on our overnight flight to Paris, and were very groggy and irritable when we arrived.
